Biography of artist Dal Bahadur Rai (DB Rai)

Rai, the son of Samsher Bahadur Rai and Ramrikhi Rai, born in 1976 in a remote
valley – upper Arun valley, north-east Nepal, is an emerging artist in the
field of Fine Art. He has completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art in 2004
He
has great enthusiasm for fine art since his childhood; he used to draw anywhere
possible spaces: home yard, house walls, and textbook covers. He completed a school
level study from his village school. After completing his school level in the
village, he moved to Kathmandu for higher education in…….. During school life,
he was not aware of whether fine art was taught in the University courses. However,
soon after he came to Kathmandu, he learned that Tribhuvan University teaches
fine art and he got admitted to Lalit Kala Campus to study fine art.
As
he is from a remote area, marginalized indigenous group, life for him was not
easy in Kathmandu. However, he did hard work, sharpened his skill and
knowledge, took part in several art competitions at local and national levels,
and now has become a professional artist. Though he learned skills and
knowledge from formal education, he honors nature as the real Guru.
Charismatically, he is skilled in portraying wonderfully sketch of nature’s
landscape on the canvas. He loves outdoor paintings, and he loves doing the water-color
painting. In the field of fine art, he is very much impressed and influenced by
the works of David Taylor, Joseph Zbukvic, Chien Chung Wei, and Praful Sawant. Though his art has yet to gain fame and name
amongst the public, he is a well-known artist amongst the art academia. He has
successfully held a solo Art Exhibition in Siddhartha Art Gallery in 2004.
He
is one of the founder members of the International Water Color Society that was
established in 2016 for the promotion and development of Water Color Painting. Since
its establishment, the Water Color Society organized the international Art
Exhibition Program in several countries such as China, Indonesia, India, and the
UAE where he actively participated as both an Executive Member and Artist.
Besides this, he also participated in the following International Art
Exhibitions held in China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Thailand,
Mexico, America, Turkey, Australia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Bolivia,
France, Korea, and many other countries. Mr. Yamphu Rai has received several
prestigious national and international awards and honors, some of them are:
